April is...National Garden Month

April is National Garden Month…and the temperatures the past couple of days are finally starting to make it feel like it might be time to do some gardening!
National Garden Month started as National Garden Week, a proclamation signed by former President Regan in 1987.  In 2002 the National Gardening Association resolved to extend it from a week to a month.

Gardens are a staple for many rural homes, whether they are flower gardens, vegetable and fruit gardens, or a combination there of.   I grew up with a vegetable garden at home, and loved having the fresh produce…and while gardens at my home now are more of the perennial flower variety that requires very little work or maintenance, I still love those fresh fruits and veggies!  The National Gardening Association shared some great posts for the month of April to celebrate National Garden Month, and we wanted to share those with you!
