Glancing Back at 2018 and Leaping Forward to 2019

It’s the last Monday of 2018…and what a year it has been.  Ask a farmer about 2018, and you’re bound to get an earful…so many things have happened this year.  There have been ups and downs, and through it all farmers have done their best to weather the storms (sometimes literally) while still working hard to provide the food and fiber that we all depend on.
2018 brought an incredible amount of rain to much of Virginia and West Virginia, in fact it has been the wettest year on record for many areas!  In addition to that, commodity prices have been up and down and farmers have watched the trade war and tariffs impact their prices, which has caused farm income to decrease across the country this year.  On the brighter side, the extra rain means that there is plenty of grass in pastures (at least those that aren’t too muddy) and to end 2018 on a great note for agriculture, the 2018 Farm bill passed though both houses and was signed into law by the President!  This has not been a perfect year by any means, but farmers have continued to work through the obstacles to the best of their ability.
The Farm Credit Knowledge Center team also saw some changes in 2018. We welcomed Katie Frazier, Sarah Scyphers and most recently Marie Rothwell to our team this year. We are excited to have our new team members on board and look forward to a productive 2019.
The entire Knowledge Center team appreciates all the support and participation in our events and with our advocacy efforts throughout 2018, and we look forward to continuing to help and support the agriculture industry as a whole as we move forward to 2019 and beyond.   We wish each and every farmer, rancher, consumer and supporter all the best during this holiday season!

The Farm Credit Knowledge Center supports all types of agriculture.  We strive to share relevant, fact based content from trusted and reliable sources to help share information that will be of benefit to both agriculture producers and consumers.
