In our area (Virginia, West Virginia, and Maryland) farmers often talk about the amount of land that they own in acres...50 acres, 100 acres, 1000 acres. (Fun fact: as you move towards the central and western part of the country, land is sometimes measure in hectares, which is approximately 2.47 acres). But what does an acre of land look like? And what can it produce?
An acre of land is approximately 1 football field. Easy enough right? 1 football field doesn't seem like a huge amount of land, but when you consider that many farmers in our area are managing 50 acres, and sometimes up to several hundred or even 1000 acres, it can add up.
So what can that 1 football field produce?
Ag 101 (a project of the
National Agricultural Institute) shared this great graphic to show what just 1 acre of land can produce when it is managed properly. Be sure to check out their Facebook page for more great information and graphics.
