Yum...Brussels Sprouts??

Ymmm…brussels sprouts!  Not something you hear at your house very often?  Me either.   My brother used to say that if it tasted good, it couldn’t be good for you – and if it was good for you it probably didn’t taste good.  I think many kids, and probably quite a few adults, feel the same, especially when it comes to fruits and vegetables.  Did you know that 90% of kids and adults don’t eat enough fruits and vegetables according to the American Dietary Guidelines and the MyPlate recommendations?

A Tender Strength

Nurturing. Compassion. Gentleness. Tenderness. Empathy.  These words are often associated more with mothers and women, than they are with fathers.  Strong, brave, hard-working, tough, and proud probably come more easily to mind when we think of the male role models in our lives.  But as we celebrate Father’s Day, and I reflect on some of the many wonderful fathers and male role models that I am privileged to know, I am convinced that both sets of adjectives are equally as relevant.  Have you ever seen a father hold his child for the first time?  Or watched a grandfather as he listens intently to his grandchild telling a “very important” story?

June Is Dairy Month!!

Cheese, yogurt, milk, ice cream, sour cream, cottage cheese, butter…I can safely say that dairy is one of my favorite food groups, which is why June is one of my favorite months!  June is National Dairy Month, and I am always more than happy to do my part to “appreciate” dairy products during this month…okay, I’ll be honest, I tend to appreciate them all year round!

Off To The Races

The Belmont Stakes, the last leg of the Triple Crown when there is a horse who has won both the Kentucky Derby and the Preakness, is scheduled for this Saturday, June 11.  Exaggerator who won the Preakness is scheduled to run, but Nyquist, who won the Kentucky Derby, will not be running due to illness.
