Ten Things To Do Before You List Your Home For Sale

March is officially here (yay!) and that means that spring is getting closer!  Spring is a popular time for those who are looking to sell their home to list it for sale – the mad rush (and spending) of the holidays is over and it is time to look forward.  If you are thinking about putting your home on the market, it’s always a good idea to make sure that it makes a good first impression…so we have gathered a list of the Top Ten Things To Do Before You List Your Home For Sale.

10. Create a good first impression from the outside in.  Make sure that there is no peeling paint, broken screens, or messy flowerbeds.  A neat attractive outside make people want to come inside!
9. Clean, clean, clean.  Make sure that the inside of your home is clean, it makes it seems much more welcoming!
8. Go neutral.  Give your walls a fresh coat of paint, but keep it neutral.  Potential buyers have an easier time seeing themselves in a home if the colors are neutral.
7. Shine bright.  Make sure that all of your light bulbs are in working order and replace any old, outdated light fixtures.
6. It’s the little things.  Fix any broken handles and hardware.  While you are at it, this is a great time to replace any old, outdated hardware with newer fixtures.  This is a relatively inexpensive fix that can make a huge difference!
5. Declutter.  Put away toys, books and personal items like pictures.  If the space is decluttered and depersonalized it is easier for buyers to see themselves in the space!
4.  Less is more.  If you have rooms that are crowded with furniture, removing some of those pieces will make the home feel much more spacious.
3.  Make your pets incognito.  Make sure to repair any damage to the home caused by pets, and be sure to clean up after them inside (hair, food and water bowls, toys) as well as outside so that people can walk through the yard!
2. Clear your counters.  In both your bathrooms and kitchen, remove items from the counters.  It will make the rooms seem to have much more storage and counter space!
1. Set the stage.  Set your table, put out fresh shower towels in the bathroom, make the beds…anything to make the house feel homey and ready for people!
