The Opportunities are Endless for the Youth

The beginning of a new tradition took place among the youth livestock shows at the 2015 Virginia State Fair, “The Sale of Champions”. The sale brought together individuals, businesses, partnerships and others who showed their support for the youth and livestock programs. As a result of the sale, the youth at the state fair will have the opportunity to be awarded additional premiums as well as to be eligible for multiple scholarships.

Head, Heart, Hands and Health

Last week was National 4-H week.  For many, when they think of 4-H, they think of showing livestock; and that is a part of what 4-H is about.  But 4-H is also about so much more than showing a livestock project at a county fair. 

4-H has been around for more than 100 years.  At its core, 4-H is focused on, surprise, 4 “h’s” – head, heart, hands and health.  For those of you who may not have grown up in 4-H, the pledge is below:
“I pledge my head to clearer thinking, my heat to greater loyalty, my hands to larger service, and my health to better living, for my club, my community, my country and my world.”

Virginia Wine Distribution Company

Virginia Wine Distribution Company (VWDC) was established in 2007 by the General Assembly as a non-profit, non-stock corporation (the first of its kind!) to provide wholesale wine and cider distribution for Virginia farm wineries and cideries.  Other states including North Carolina and Tennessee have inquired about Virginia’s model for the VWDC, but to date, no other state has a similar organization.
